write Galatians 1:3-5
Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Genesis 19 concentrates on the depravity of Sodom and Gomorrah and the decisions and actions of one man, Lot. Because Lot is an individual not often focused upon, let’s do a character study.
Some people drift through life making choices based on the path of least resistance. Lot, Abraham’s nephew was such a man. Although given strong role models, mainly Abram, Lot did not develop their sense of purpose. Throughout his life he was so caught up in the present moment that he seemed incapable of seeing the consequences of his actions. He was a person who first thought of himself, was easily influenced by others, and often chose the easiest course of action. Had he not had Abram’s attentive love and God’s intervention, his life surely would have been complete destruction.
Instead, Lot is called righteous in 2 Peter 2:7-8. Lot’s story gives us hope that not only does God forgive, but He uses all circumstances for His glory.
How does Lot’s character give you hope?
What lessons can you learn from Lot’s characteristics?
Do you find yourself acclimating to the environments around you, or are you standing, firm, holy, and set apart?
