God>Famine
Famine: Extreme scarcity of food, starvation; can also mean any shortage or insufficiency.
The word famine is used throughout the Bible. Read these verses:
“Thus says the LORD of hosts: Behold, I will send on them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like rotten figs that cannot be eaten, they are so bad.” 2 Kings 8:1
“Then Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise and go, you and your household, and stay wherever you can; for the LORD has called for a famine, and furthermore, it will come upon the land for seven years.” Jeremiah 29:17
“Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David inquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, “It is because of Saul and his bloodthirsty house, because he killed the Gibeonites.” 2 Samuel
“So the plenty will not be known in the land because of the famine following, for it will be very severe. And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.” Genesis 41:31-32
Who sends, calls, establishes, and brings the famine to pass in these verses?
All of these verses remind us of God’s omnipotence
(God holds all power. Nothing is too hard for God. What He wills He can accomplish.)
and sovereignty.
(God does everything according to His plan and pleasure. He controls all things.)
If God is in control of famine, He is also in control of ending famine; not to mention providing for his people during a time of shortage.
