memorize god’s word
write Genesis 15:6
And he believed in the Lord , and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!”--Genesis 15:1-3
God calls us to focus on Him, not our circumstances. In Genesis 15:1, God reminds Abram not to fear because it is God who protects and rewards. God is gently reminding Abram to refocus his attention on Him.
Instead, Abram’s response shows us that Abram’s focus is on his circumstance--he still does not have an heir. You see, to Abram, his circumstance looked impossible. He was old and seemingly past child bearing years. But God is bigger than impossible looking circumstances and His plans are always better than our plans. Abram had already identified who he thought would be his heir. But God is Sovereign and his plan always comes to fruition.
Like Abram are you focusing on your circumstance? Are you focused on solving your own problems? Or are you keeping your eyes on the Faithful One whose word always comes to pass? Today, let’s refocus our attention on Him.
