write 2 Timothy 2:13
If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.
Today in our text, we find Abraham in the same exact situation in Chapter 12 when he traveled to Egypt to escape the famine. Except in this instance, we aren’t told WHY he is traveling. “Should he have gone at all?”, is definitely a question we can ask ourselves when thinking all of this through.
Now I like to consider Abraham as a good guy, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t make mistakes, much less the same mistake more than once, seemingly having learned no lesson at all.
While it is easy for us to read the narrative and think, “Really Abraham, this again?” I know without a shadow of a doubt that all of us have found, and even continue to find, ourselves in this same pattern of repetition with our sin.
So today, take some time to think about your sin patterns.
Consider what things are causing temptation and making way for the repetition. Is it thoughtless habits? Are you on the move like Abraham, when perhaps you needed to obediently stay still? Maybe it’s the complete opposite…are you supposed to move and you have chosen to be stagnant? Is it the company you keep? The possibilities are endless, but one thing remains true…
It is for freedom that Christ Jesus has set us free.
When we continue in our sin, not learning from our mistakes, or repenting of the sin in our lives, we remain bound to the yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)
Sit with God and really take a look at your life. Praise Him, Confess, Repent and repeat inviting the glorious freedom that Jesus freely gives into your life!
