In Him you were circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.

Introduction to Circumcision

The surgical removal of the foreskin was typically done with a razor sharp flint knife (see Joshua 5:2-3), on male newborns eight days old. It is important to note that no female circumcision was authorized. The act of circumcision signified the surrender of the first portion of the bodily instrument used to fulfill God’s first command to humanity, “be fruitful and multiply.” (Genesis 1:28) Circumcision symbolized an individual's willingness to submit all of himself to God and to all of His covenant commands. Therefore every male child (and man of old) among them was to be circumcised, regardless of status, wealth, master or slave, all of the Israelite community would share the common experience and the common mark of circumcision. Making all Israelites equal before God. All who didn’t share the mark of circumcision would be cut off from his people because he had broken the covenant with the Lord.
