I Am the Almighty God
And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. Genesis 17:1 KJV
In lesson 9 we saw the name El Roi (the God who sees) and today in our text we see God refer to Himself as Almighty God or El Shaddai. God is referred to or refers to Himself by many different names throughout the Bible. If we are careful to stop and look at the meaning of these names we can better understand who God is and His unchanging nature. While Almighty God seems pretty self explanatory we can always learn more about God through His living Word.
Attribute Time!
Omnipotence = Almighty
Let’s look into God’s omnipotence to get a better understanding of what God is saying of Himself to Abram and to us in chapter 17.
Read Exodus Chapter 6:1-8
What does this text say to you about the omnipotence of God?
Now dig deeper!
All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?” Daniel 4:35 NKJV
But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases. Psalm 115:3 NKJV
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20 NLT
Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me. Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish. Isaiah 46:9-10 NKJV
Tying the attribute Omnipotence to the name Almighty God helps us to understand that God is who He says He is. Having a better understanding of God’s true nature should move us to a deeper reverence, trust and faith in Him.
