I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
Genesis 9:13
We mentioned last week that looking at lineage in scripture can be tedious and daunting; however, it is important because it always does two things: 1.) it connects passages one may have thought unconnected into one unified story and 2.) that story always points to Jesus.
So, as you study Noah’s descendants know there is a reason they are mentioned. The most obvious answer is that from Shem, Ham, and Japheth the earth will be repopulated. Genesis 9:19 says “These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the people of the whole earth was populated.”
But if you look more closely Shem, Ham, and Japheth go on to be the fathers of nations. Spend some time this morning looking at what nations come from which brother. Are their actions in Genesis 9:18-20 connected to the nations they become? Which of the three brothers does Jesus descend from? Why is this important?
Pray: Thank God today for showing us the lineage of Jesus. Thank Him that by grace through faith it is also your ancestral line...for as a believer you have been adopted into the family. You, my beautiful sister, are a co-heir with Christ.
