THE BRIDGE MEN’S RECOVERY HOME- OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY

The Bridge is a sober living home for men. As a women's ministry we do try to reach out more to women normally. That being said, I know that helping men find Jesus and recovery from substance abuse will certainly impact women and children.

When this opportunity arose the first thing that came to mind was my brother. My brother James started using substances heavily at 15. He has spent a lot of time in these types of homes. I want to share with you how hard it is for men who want a change to actually make a change after incarceration and addiction violations. James tried several times to “start over” but usually couldn’t find employment, housing, and most importantly acceptance and love. Did he make bad choices? Absolutely, did he deserve another chance? Absolutely. We all do. It’s been heartbreaking to watch the consequences of his choices take him down a path of hard life with limited opportunities. I believe that if someone, anyone, would have invested in him at a younger earlier age he might have had a better chance. Lovingkindness leads us to repentance and addicts usually are cast aside with a disregard for their “humanness”. My brother met Jesus 5 years ago and has been delivered from addiction, (praise Jesus!) although he is currently incarcerated in Oklahoma, he will be up for parole next month. And he will more than likely move into a house just like the Bridge when he gets out. My prayer is that believers will surround him with love, grace, mercy and compassion when he gets out. And That God will make a way for him to live out the calling placed on his life. Please pray for him!

I’m sharing all of this to say “pray about giving to the Bridge”. This ministry isn’t even asking for new items, you might have something sitting in your home right now, unused that could make this house feel more like a home. I know God is moving Devoted into active love this year and I’m praying we respond in cheerful obedience! If you already signed up, thank you!  I love you all and am so blessed to serve alongside you all! -Angie
