Genesis 18 Review

Is anything too hard for the Lord?

Consider the memory verse for this week.

What are you holding onto, not truly believing that Almighty God can do anything!?

Take some time and record in the comments how you have seen God’s activity during the week. (How has He provided, answered, comforted, reconciled, guided, etc.?)

What attributes of God stood out to you this week during your study?

How will you continue to live in light of these truths?

Spend some time simply PRAISING GOD FOR WHO HE IS! Push play on the lyric video below (this will be our praise song for Monday night) and sing God’s praises with a heart of gratitude for our mediator Jesus Christ!

Our book has given us plenty to ponder on the matter of INTERCESSORY PRAYER.

So I urge you to really sit with the verses we were given and what you learned about intercessory prayer perhaps you even feel led to look up some more on this topic, DO IT! There are many gems in God’s Word about intercessory prayer!

In Ezekiel, God says, "And I searched for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found no one" (Ezek. 22:30, NASB)

Will you answer this call to INTERCEDE in prayer before Almighty God? Will you stand in the gap on behalf of yourself, your family, your friends, this nation, and your world?

Even if you don’t know what to pray, God’s word says

''Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. ' Romans 8:26-28

Verse 28 is one of those that we like to pluck out because it sounds good. Don’t get me wrong as a stand alone, verse 28 IS GREAT.

BUT I am just now seeing for myself that God works together everything for our good on the basis of WORDLESS INTERCESSORY PRAYER IN THE SPIRIT! God’s will is done when we bend to the fact that He knows best and works according to the totality of his character(his attributes) and come before Him in humility and surrendered prayer for ourselves and for others!

Remember, INTERCESSION is a weapon in a spiritual battle, so remember to head to Ephesians 6 and armor up and take up the sword of the Spirit(God’s Word) and THEN GO TO WAR!

In today’s study we learned that Abraham was called a “friend of God” from reading James 2:23

Because of Christ’s righteousness, and not our own, we too are called friends of God.

Do you, like me, tend to forget about this aspect of my relationship with God? I am quick to remember He is Sovereign King, Creator of the Universe, and even a loving Father. At the same time God DOES hold all those titles, and many more, He also calls Himself OUR FRIEND as we read in the verses from John 15.

How would our relationship and intimacy with God deepen if we embraced Him as friend more?

Would He be the first one we “call” when we are sad or in a pickle? Would He be the one we confide in when we have made a bad decision or have been deeply hurt?

Take some time to pray and think about what holds you back from embracing God as friend. Talk to Him about it. Surrender to Him and ask Him to help you in this area.

The most important aspect of Christianity is not the work we do, but the relationship we maintain (with God) and the surrounding influence and qualities produced by that relationship. That is all God asks us to give our attention to, and it is the one thing that is continually under attack.

#6 in our study book has us read Romans 10:14&17.

Take a moment and consider all the ways we “HEAR THE WORD OF GOD”

What posture/character/attitude do you think we must have to receive God’s Word and why?

Do you find hearing the Word to be a more active or passive thing?

#12 had us compare a few verses, but I want us to take some time and sit with 1 Peter 3:1-7 since we are a group of women.

Before reading what I have to say, meditate on these verses. What do they say? How should we act as wives? What stands out to you? What other questions arise as you read them?

I love specifically how Peter chose not to emphasize Sarah’s shortcomings but rather pointed us to the fact that she submitted to her husband and obeyed him. This gives me hope because I think of all the mistakes I have made as a wife. We have seen Sarah’s messiness up until this point for ourselves in our study, yet that is not what is recorded of her. I believe that if we too HOPE IN GOD(v5) love and respect our husbands the same will be true for us if we heed the words from these seven verses in First Peter.

We must note that this idea of obeying our husbands isn’t comparable to the relationship of parent and child. Obedience to our husbands shows that we follow or submit to their leadership.

But what about those among us who have husbands who aren’t leading, or who aren’t even Christians?

Find hope in 1 Peter 3:1-2. “be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, THEY MAY BE WON WIHTOUT A WORD BY THE CONDUCT OF THEIR WIVES, WHEN THEY SEE YOUR RESPECTFUL AND PURE CONDUCT.”

We are still to be subject and obedient to our husbands, even if they aren’t believers, and conduct ourselves with a gentle and quiet spirit, with respect, pure conduct, exhibiting the person and character of Christ, so that they might see for themselves AND BE WON TO GOD WITHOUT A WORD! Christian women are to live out the gospel before their unsaved husbands. This is possible because we are first devoted, obedient, and subject to CHRIST.

In His power submission and obedience is possible. No matter what your situation might be.

And you may say to me, “But T’Naya, I’m not married.” Oh but sister you are. No matter where you might be in life. If you have accepted Him as Savior, Jesus Christ is your groom. And He is the best husband you could hope and dream for <3
